Issue/Introduction

The client had the following questions on performing a View 14.0 install:

. How do you keep reports on tape for 14 days?

. How do you keep reports on disk for 2 days?

. How do you collect reports from output class 6?

. Are there any rule-of-thumb requirements regarding the allocation and sizing of a database?

Environment

Release : 14.0

Component : CA View

Resolution

The SARINIT NGEND and NGENT parameters are used to determine retention, if ERO is not being used.

. NGEND=2 means that reports are kept on disk for two generations.
. NGENT=14 means that reports are kept on tape for 14 generations.

SARINIT CLSL=6 would be used (with DEST= and FORM= ) to collect reports in sysout class 6.

The sizing of a database is something that evolves over time.

A reasonable allocation, of 3000 cylinders index and 10000 cylinders data, is a good place to start.
Other extents will need added, over time, depending on the activity of the database.
Database space, index and data, can be added on-the-fly, with no need to bring down the SARSTC task.
