Issue/Introduction

We had so many tapes that are wrapped and now the newest tapes are about half way through the total tape sequence, so when you run a SARPAC utility it is not consolidating the oldest tapes as it should be.

Is there a way to get our tapes back in sequence, so we can start running our regular tape consolidation jobs?

Resolution

  • Had the client run a SARPAC REPORT, to see the list of currently used tapes.
  • Provided the client a SARGRW program, that lists tapes by Creation Date.
  • From that list, the client was able to determine the oldest tapes, and it was suggested that they run SARPAC TAPESEQ=nnnnn[-nnnnn], to process the oldest tapes to have their data moved to new tapes.
