VM:Tape for z/VM

Issue/Introduction

Is there a way to stop STAM on a system that is not running?

We have a couple systems configured in our STAM PARM file. Those systems rarely come up, so we constantly get this type of nagging message:

VMTSTM0358W STAM HAS NOT BEEN STARTED on system LDV5.

VMTSTM0358W STAM HAS NOT BEEN STARTED on system LDV7.

I know I can issue STOP from a local system, but can I tell STAM to forget about these two systems?

Environment

Release : 2.0 RSU-1801

Component : CA VM:Tape for zVM

z/VM 7.1

Resolution

Try using the STAM RELEASE command which is used to make tape drives that have been allocated to one system in the STAM complex available for allocation to any system in the complex.

We suggest using this command when a system has abended and will not be restarted for a long time.

Additional Information

The STAM RELEASE command is documented in VM:Tape's Command Reference that can be accessed at:
