Issue/Introduction

When IBM APAR OA53954/OA55315/OA53955 for Z/OS 2.3 are installed in lpars where Top Secret 16.0 is present, it can happen that the products  Workload Automation ESP Edition  -  Workload Automation CA 7 Edition and CA Scheduler  get an abend with S878-10 during jobs internal reader submit phase,  if  Top Secret fix SO04024 is not applied.

 

Top Secret PIB SI05181 explains that  S878 abends can occur in address spaces where JOBS are submitted to the JES2 INTRDR. All available storage below the line in subpool 229 will be exhausted and task failures will occur. The problem will most likely manifest itself in CICS regions, Workload Automation address spaces, or any long running batch job or started task that submits many JOBS using the JES2  INTRDR.   

                                                                   

In addition it has been also discovered that, due to these same reasons,  Workload Automation CA 7 Edition can  abend S000 U0999 in module CA7MDRV0.

Resolution

In order to solve both these 2 kinds of abend (S878-10 AND U0999 in CA7MDRV0) , it is necessary to apply  the Top Secret 16.0 PTFs SO06140, SO04627 and SO05724, that will address this condition (running out of storage), as also reported in Tops Secret PIB SI05181
