Issue/Introduction

This article provides the procedure for removing stuck or unwanted workflow requests from a user's worklist in Identity Manager.

This issue is often encountered when a workflow approval or rejection action results in a timeout or persistent state, preventing the task from clearing automatically.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x

Cause

  • Workflow requests remain stuck in a "Pending" status in the user's worklist.
  • Attempts to reject or approve the request via the UI result in a timeout error.
  • The worklist does not update even after backend processing attempts.

Resolution

To manually remove pending workflow requests, follow these steps:

  1. Identify the Workflow Job ID:

    • Open the worklist item in the Identity Manager User Console.
    • Note the workflow process name and the Job ID (e.g., 123:WPDS).
    • Alternative method: Navigate to the VST (View Submitted Tasks). Locate the "Last Activity" column; the Job ID is typically displayed in the format WPDS:xxxx, where xxxx is the Job ID number.
  2. Access CA-IM Workpoint Designer:

    • Launch the CA-IM Workpoint Designer application.
  3. Locate and Cancel the Job:

    • In the designer, select Open Job.
    • From the list of available workflow processes, select the relevant process name.
    • Select the corresponding Job ID identified in Step 1.
    • In the left-hand menu, select Cancel or Delete.
  4. Verification:

    • Return to the Identity Manager user worklist.
    • Refresh the page to verify that the unwanted workflow item has been removed.
