NetMaster Network Automation

Issue/Introduction

Customer reported that the bank's offices--which are SNAGRPs--were not

being monitored on Resource Monitor.

Customer was not sure when problem started.

Note: SNAGRPs = SNA Groups.

Environment

OS: z/OS

Release : 12.2

Component : CA NetMaster Network Automation

Cause

The original problem was that the code would set up a timer to trigger the first heartbeat

BEFORE setting up all the APPLs to be monitored. On a long set-up (such as this case)

the problem was that the timer would pop before the set-up was finished and would

be missed.

Resolution

Level 2 Support raised a fix (tested successfully at customer and published

as SO08493) that moves the setting of that initial timer to AFTER the APPL

set-up is complete.

This ensures that the initial heartbeat is not missed and so        subsequent

heartbeats will occur.

Additional Information

Important information found on PTF SO08493 summary:

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

APPL heartbeat processing stalls and state changes for APPLs may

not be detected.

SYMPTOMS:

After a region is restarted SNA Groups may show an  incorrect state

as a result of APPL state changes not being detected.

IMPACT:

Automation based on the status of SNA Groups     is not performed.
