Issue/Introduction

The Subtask Date changes do not roll up to the summary task when the subtask dates are changed to a different date by posting actuals and having no ETC remaining. The date of the Summary Task remains at the previous date.

Steps to Reproduce:

Scenario 1: (When the post timesheet pushes the start date)

1. Create a project with dates 6/1 - 7/7

2. Staff a resource to the Team

3. Create a task (Summary1) with the same dates as the project

4. Create a second task (Subtask1) with the same dates as the project

5. Assign the resource from Step2 to the second task (Subtask1) from Step4

6. Do nto provide ETC to the task assignment

7. In the PPM Gantt, indent the Subtask1 task under the Summary1 task

8. Post a timesheet for 8 hours on the date of 6/12 for the resource assigned on the Subtask1 task

9. Note the start date fo the Subtask1 has been pushed to the 12th of June

Expected Results: The Start Date of the Summary1 task has also changed to 6/12 to reflect the new Subtask1 date

Actual Results: The Start Date of the summary1 task remains at the previous date, 9/27

Scenario 1: (When the post timesheet shortens the finish date)

1. Create a project with dates 9/13 - 9/27

2. Staff a resource to the Team

3. Create a task (Summary1) with the same dates as the project

4. Create a second task (Subtask1) with the same dates as the project

5. Assign the resource from Step2 to the second task (Subtask1) from Step4

6. Update the total ETC of the assignment to 10 hours

7. In the PPM Gantt, indent the Subtask1 task under the Summary1 task

8. Post a timesheet for 10 hours on the date of 9/13 for the resource assigned on the Subtask1 task

Note: At this point, the Subtask1 task has no ETC hours remaining, so the task Finish Date has changed to 9/13

Expected Results: The Finish Date of the Summary1 task has also changed to 9/13 to reflect the new Subtask1 date

Actual Results: The Finish Date of the summary1 task remains at the previous date, 9/27

Resolution

After being reviewed by our engineering team, it was determined that this behavior is working as designed when it is the Post Timesheet job modifying in the child task dates.

Workaround:

Outdent the Subtask1 task from under the Summary1 task and then indent it again. Alternatively, PPM Gantt to Auto Schedule which schedules the whole project, as part of it, it also does setting proper start and finish dates for summary tasks.

OR

Add some ETC to the assignment and then revert it back to 0
