Issue/Introduction

The customer would like to remove the old module DMSOSFDT from Compress™ Data Compression. This module was used to compress Archvol data sets.

As per Disk tech guide, the parameter SHRNKFDT dmsosfdt provides the name of the Compress FDT used to compress the  Disk archive data sets.

The  Compress™  product to compress the Disk archives is only used with the Disk data compression technique number 1, that means with sysparms DCCOMPTC1 and DCDATACPy set. So all concerned Archives were created using sysparm DCCOMPTC set to 1, as this technique number was reserved for usage with  Compress™ .

How to identify all old Archives compressed by  Compress™ ?

Resolution

The compression information is kept in the control record of the archived data set, not in the Dsnindex or Archvol records. So it not possible to create a Disk report with all Archives that are compressed via this module from Compress™.

The only way to find all the compressed data sets is to read all the Archive data sets.

In other words, the old module DMSOSFDT from Compress™ needs to be kept.
