Issue/Introduction

This article describes the resolution for a startup failure occurring in the Identity Manager Remote Agent on Unix/Linux systems. If the Remote Agent fails to start with the error "CAM: Failed to start - unable to get local host name," follow the steps below to correct the configuration.

Cause

The error "CAM: Failed to start - unable to get local host name" indicates that the operating system is unable to resolve the server's local hostname to an IP address. The Remote Agent requires proper hostname resolution to initialize correctly.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, ensure the local hostname is correctly defined in the system hosts file:

1. Open the /etc/hosts file on the Unix/Linux server hosting the Remote Agent using a text editor with root privileges.
2. Add an entry for the server's IP address and hostname: [IP_Address] [Hostname]
3. Save the changes and exit the file.
4. Restart the Remote Agent using the standard startup command: ./rc
