Issue/Introduction

On the sysgen TASK definition, what is the difference between PROTOCOL DEFRESP and EXPRESP?

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Resolution

The recommendation is to use EXPRESP and if the VTAM line has EXPRESP, it will be used regardless of what is on the TASK Statement

If the VTAM line has DEFRESP, use EXPRESP on TASKs.

From the System Generation manual:

EXPresp

Specifies that exception response protocol is in effect for the line. All tasks performed on the line use exception response protocol.

Exception response protocol reduces transmission time because terminals are not required to respond with a completion status when a terminal write is requested from the DC/UCF system.
