A device that is not reachable is getting listed on the "Top Least Reachable Network Devices (Bar Chart)".
If the device is set to Retired status, it disappears from the Availability statistics.
If we delete the device, it disappears from the statistics and we also lose all the historical data. The deleted device could still appear in the Availability statistics as 100% available, depending on the select time frame in the View.
For devices that are not reachable, is it possible to delete or retire them so they are not listed in the "Top Least Available Network Devices (Bar Chart)" and "Top Least Reachable Network Devices (Bar Chart)", but at the same time keep the historical data for the same devices?
Dx NetOps Performance Management
The Availability and Reachability metrics track two related, but very different aspects of device connectivity. Availability measures system uptime (sysUpTime), while Reachability measures device connectivity to NetOps Performance Management.
The device may appear as 100% available in statistics view depending on the time frame selected and data being backfilled, because we could still do successful SNMP call to its sysUpTime MIB variable.
If the device is retired, it will disappear as available because it will not respond anymore to NetOps Performance Management SNMP calls.
Deleting the device will cause loosing the historical data and remove it from NetOps Portal to be reported on.
Setting the state to Retired will stop all polling attempts to the device and its components from that moment, but the components will remain in NetOps Portal, so we still see them in Devices and Interfaces lists. And we will be able to report against their historical data. That means the device/components will be visible in any dashboard/view until the historical data has aged older than the time range selected in the View to be reported on.
For example, if we retire a device now, we will still see the retired device in the "Top Least Available Network Devices (Bar Chart)" and "Top Least Reachable Network Devices (Bar Chart)" views with a “Last Hour” time frame. After more than one hour, this Last Hour report will not show the retired device anymore.
If we switch to “Last 4 Hours” time frame in the View, the retired device will be showed again.
And this will be the case until the historical data has aged out completely.
