Issue/Introduction

This document will explain how to forward traps from Spectrum to another Network Monitoring System.

Environment

Release : 10.3.2 / 10.4

Component : Spectrum Core / SpectroSERVER

Resolution

  • Spectrum does not have any native trap forwarding capabilities.
  • You can use the TrapX utility installed local to the Spectrum Server to listen on UDP Port 162 which is a well know trap receiver destination.
  • TrapX can be configured to forward the traps to multiple destinations\trap receivers.
  • You can then change Spectrum to listen on a different UDP port and receive the forwarded traps from TrapX.
  • The Spectrum trap port is defined under %SPECROOT%\SS\.vnmrc file

  • Once the snmp_trap_port is updated Spectrum server needs to be restarted.
