Spectrum Trap Director is not forwarding traps and is creating models locally.

Issue/Introduction

We have recently experienced a large number of devices being added to the New Devices folder in Spectrum, devices that are already modeled in Spectrum.

This is a distributed SpectroSERVER environment, with four separate Landscapes. 

The traps come into the Trap Director server and there are models being created for those traps.

Environment

Release : All Supported Spectrum Releases

Component : SPCCSS - Spectrum Core / SpectroSERVER

Cause

This is due to having Unmanaged Trap Discovery enabled on the Trap Director Server. 

The Unmanaged Trap Discovery process is not distributed and is local to the SpectroSERVER. 

When the trap comes in, Spectrum looks in the local IPaddress table and does not find the model. 

With the Unmanaged Trap Discovery enabled, the SpectroSERVER will then create the model on the SpectroSERVER.

Resolution

Disable Unmanaged Trap Discovery on the VNM model on the Trap Director server:

1.  Highlight the VNM model

2.  In the Component Detail, open the AutoDiscovery Control area

3.  Open the "Trap Based Continuous Discovery" area

4.  Set the Unmanaged Trap Discovery to Disabled.
