Issue/Introduction

I'm installing UIM and I get the following error: "Field 'Database Username' is invalid. Valid characters are: Must start with characters a-z or A-Z and afterward can contain: a-z, A-Z, 0.9, and underscores (_)."

Environment

  • UIM 9.0.2

Resolution

If characters that are not allowed are used in the Database username field,  the installation wizard will show the below message:

Starting UIM 9.02 the setupCAUIMserver.exe Installer wizard only allows specific characters for the DB username.

However, all versions of UIM and Data_engine accept special characters such as "-" in the username for the database connection.

If the DB user needs to contain a special character like "-" and it cannot be changed it is possible to install UIM with a temporary user with sysadmin ('sa') priviliges, and then swap the user back to the desired user id after installation.
