Advanced Reporting custom reports permissions failing with error "Access is denied"

Issue/Introduction

When running custom reports in Jaspersoft, they fail with the below error:

org.springframework.security.access.AccessDeniedException: Access is denied 

Cause

This is most likely a permission issue.

Resolution

This error is usually an indication that some of the 'resources' used by the report (subreports, input controls, etc) are not available due to permissions. We recommend checking thoroughly all the resources and the access to them.
