Issue/Introduction

OS doesn't boot on reboot after installing 12.8SP1CP2 on Windows2008 R2.

It goes to system recovery option after boot.

Environment

CA Privileged Identity Manager 12.8 SP1 CP2

Windows 2008 R2

Cause

This happens due to PIM driver signature on 12.8 SP1 CP2 cannot be accepted by old Windows 2008 R2.

Resolution

This can be avoided after applying KB3033929 on W2K8R2 SP1.

This also can be avoided by disabling Signed Driver Enforcement.

If the problem happens, log into Windows via system recovery option and rename following PIM drivers from command prompt and reboot.

cainstrm.sys, seosdrv.sys and drveng.sys under windows\system32\drivers

Then apply KB3033929 and revert back the renamed PIM drivers and reboot.
