Issue/Introduction

This article outlines the procedure to modify or replace the administrator user account for the Provisioning Manager component in Identity Manager. This process requires duplication of the existing admin user, XML configuration updates, and service restarts.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.5 & 15

Cause

Administrative user accounts for the Provisioning Manager may need to be updated due to personnel changes, security policy updates, or account lifecycle management.

Resolution

  1. Duplicate the Administrator User:
    • Open the Provisioning Manager.
    • Navigate to Users > Search.
    • Select the existing administrator user.
    • Right-click and select Duplicate.
    • Enter the new username, password, and required details.
    • Ensure DomainAdministrator is selected in the Admin Profiles tab.
  2. Export Configuration:
    • Open the Management Console.
    • Navigate to Home > Directories.
    • Select the relevant provisioning store.
    • Export the XML configuration file and save it locally.
  3. Update XML Configuration:
    • Edit the exported XML file.
    • Locate and update the username in the two required locations.
    • If updating the password, encrypt the new password using the pwdtools.bat utility.
    • Format the encrypted password as {PBES}:****.
  4. Import and Restart:
    • Import the modified XML file back into the Management Console.
    • Click the Restart Environments button to apply the changes.
