Output Management Web Viewer

Issue/Introduction

Users requesting that they have the option to change page orientation from portrait to landscape.

We are using Web Browser printing.

Web Browser Printing does allow/provide the option for page orientation, and, we DO NOT want to use/enable Web Add-on.

How do we achieve this request?

Environment

  • Output Management Web Viewer 12.1
  • Google Chrome Browser
  • Microsoft Edge Browser

Resolution

When using browser printing, OM Web Viewer has already passed control to the browser by the time the end user wants to choose whether they'd like their output formatted to portrait or landscape. Quite simply, it's beyond OM Web Viewer's control.

When using browser printing with OM Web Viewer, the caveat is that it's not as flexible as when you use the Web Viewer ActiveX Control to print. The reason why it's less flexible is that Web Viewer does not control the print process from start to finish like when you use the ActiveX Control.

If you can't select output orientation with Web Viewer browser printing, It's likely the browser print control that prevents it. It could be that the browser is locked down or configured in some way to prevent changing the orientation. Perhaps your micro services group configures your browser differently.

Something else to consider... when using browser printing, the application brings up the printer dialogue. Again this outside of OM Web Viewer control, but maybe the particular printer employed is not set up to allow a change in orientation. In any event, this is not an OM Web Viewer issue.
