Issue/Introduction

After abend occurred in CICS partition with message EXPC991E SUBTASK=ECDSDATA PROGRAM=GOGETEM  OFFSET=00000140, we had problems opening and closing files and accessing programs.

Resolution

Reviewed dump and advised:

The abend occurs while Explore is searching for a VSAM ACB. It encounters an empty "open acb list" block, and tries to process it, instead of recognizing that the data is invalid. I do not know why the block contains zeroes, but Explore should issue an error message and quit instead of abending. I have written PTF T387547 to address this. It has a prereq of RO94973, so if you don't have that PTF download it from support online and install it first. You will need to use the transactions EXPT and EXPS to activate the change after installing the PTF.
