Issue/Introduction

We have just configured CA Dispatch to archive to both TAPE and DISK. However, archive to TAPE receives the following error:

DC970029 Dynamic Allocation Error, RC = 012, Error = 00892
DC970099 File: your.disparch.hlq.D12345.T12345.F01

What is causing this particular dynamic allocation error and how can it be prevented?

Environment

z/OS

Resolution

This particular error indicates that you may not have a valid esoteric "UNIT" specified for both TAPE and DASD on the Dispatch VSGMU215 screen.

To resolve:

- Access this VSGMU215 screen, from the main menu, via options 9.A.S next to ARCH1.
- Define a valid UNIT for both TAPE and DASD.
- Then recycle the ARCH1 subtask of Dispatch.

Additional Information

When Dispatch does a dynamic allocation to archive a dataset, there are several suffixes that it will append to the end of the DSN, depending on the media we are trying to allocate. For example:

     DISP.ARCH.D20345.T001119.A01

In the above example, the "A" in the suffix tells us allocation is for a TAPE unit.

The information below outlines archive DSN suffix meanings:

A = TAPE
C = TAPE for CONDENSE output
F = TAPE for RE-CONDENSED output
O = OPTICAL
D = DASD
S = SMS
