Issue/Introduction
Reorging Endevor VSAM files can be a challenge if Endevor is up 24x7. It is difficult to find a time to get exclusive rights to the files. There is a document listing LServ and RLS differences. The main deterrent to using RLS is the requirement of an Endevor shutdown for file reorgs.
Is it possible to reorg Endevor VSAM files using L-Serv while Endevor is active?
Environment
Endevor r18.0 active 24 X 7 used in a z/OS environment.
Resolution
L-Serv offers a utility named LDMAMS with a COMPRESS function
VSAM file must be defined with the REUSE option of the DEFINE CLUSTER
COMPRESS function reorgs the file
COMPRESS specifically provided to allow for non-disruptive reorganization
Locks the file during the operation
Delays operations or jobs using the specific file
All other files remain available
Additional Information
The LDMAMS Utility is described in the CA Common Services for z/OS wiki for both r14.1 and r15.0
