During CA SOLVE startup, a resource in automation process remains UNKNOWN while other resources are ACTIVE.

STARTSYS by SOLVE startup, each resource is reset as UNKNOWN. when a resource has several parents, the first parent who completes DSM process, it starts initialization of DSM for a child. It changes actual status from UNKNOWN to INACTIVE and goes into RMDM0037 ENTERING PARENT WAIT PERIOD. 

After all parents DSM complete, it starts initialization of DSM for a child. 

Another process to change a status of child is a status check by a child of the resource. When one of parents starts automation process of a child, the child checks other parents status. It will also change the resource status from UNKNOWN. 

A status of child remains UNKNOWN at least until one of parents completes DSM process or if the child is a parent of another child, status check by the child who is started by another parent will change the status.
