Datacom DATACOM - AD

Issue/Introduction

During my migration process for CA Datacom/AD from version 12.0 to version 15.0, the instructions say to backup my system. The JCL mentions job AD15BKUP - does this job backup the old system before changing it?

In version 15.0 for CA Datacom/AD, is job AD15BKUP used to create a backup for my old environment or for the new one?

Environment

Release:
Component: AD

Resolution

There are two sets of instructions in the CA Datacom/AD version 15.0 AXPOR01 job:

1. To backup your application database files (called the "using" product) before doing the migration, and

2. To backup your current version 15.0 CXX and Datadictionary database files after the migration.

In order to back up your application databases, the instructions in the AXPOR01 job direct you to consult your application documentation to identify the proper job that they provide for you. For example, in CA Workload Automation Restart Option for z/OS Schedulers (called CA 11), there is a job in the CA 11 SAMPJCL called AL7BKUP that will perform this backup. Each application has its own process.

For the second point, above, we provide two different backup jobs that you can use:

AD15BKUP is designed to take a backup of the CXX, Datadictionary (DB 2 and 15), and other application databases as desired, and will store these backups on tape.

AD15BK02 is designed to take a backup of the CXX and Datadictionary and store them on disk.

There is no job in the CA Datacom/AD version 15.0 INSTJCL PDS that is designed to take a backup of the older version environment, as that environment should not be changed by the migration process. Note that if you are using the Active Upgrade process, you will not run this AXPOR01 migration job.
