Issue/Introduction

This article addresses an issue where CA Identity Portal fails to retrieve a list of roles for target permissions on the Identity Governance connector. This behavior often occurs when multiple universes exist within the environment, specifically when some universes are empty.

Cause

The error is caused by the presence of empty universes within the CA Identity Governance database, which triggers a java.lang.NullPointerException in the SageDalImpl.getConfigurationRoles method during role retrieval.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, purge the empty universes from the database:

1. Log in to the CA Identity Portal administration interface.
2. Navigate to Administration > Settings.
3. Select the Purge Data option.
4. Follow the prompts to identify and remove the empty universes from the database.
5. Verify that role fetching for target permissions is now functioning correctly.
