Thread dumps are in non-standard encoding

Issue/Introduction

When setting up an APM to do thread dumps when the server agent reports high CPU usage, the thread dump seems to be in a specific/proprietary encoding and cannot be opened by any of the normal means. Including Eclipse Memory Analyser Tool (MAT) and/or text editors. Although, APM can open them just fine.

 Is there any way of decoding it so it is plain text?

Cause

Could be one of the following reasons:
1. Corrupted file 
2. APM EM console Login User Credentials 
3. File creation steps not followed correctly


 

Environment

CA APM 10..7

Resolution

1. Try recreating the file
2. Login with APM Admin user

Collect New button to collect a thread dump.
Save as Text button to save current thread dump to a text file
