Issue/Introduction

When attempting to open a project in Open Workbench (OWB), you are getting an error "Unable to open project <project id>. An exception occurred: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space".

Increasing the JavaMemoryLimit as per OWB: Setting maximum java memory usage does not help get the project to open.

Environment

Release: All
Component: Open Workbench (OWB)

Cause

The project cannot be opened due to a memory limitation with the 32 bit version of OWB.

Resolution

If possible, decreasing the size of the project may help get it to open in OWB. This can be done by:

  1. Temporarily removing subprojects (if any)
  2. Checking the option to 'Only Export the Current Baseline' (if not already checked)
  3. Splitting up some of the tasks onto a second project.
