Unable to Edit Excel/Word Doc for SharePoint Application

Issue/Introduction

After successful login, while navigating to the SharePoint application in Google Chrome, we are able to open the Excel/Word doc, but upon attempting to edit the document we are presented with a login screen.  As the user is authenticated and has a valid session, we are expecting the request to succeed without being challenged for credentials.

Cause

Office applications are only capable of retrieving persistent cookies stored in IE's cookie location.  If browsers store their persistent cookies elsewhere, the Office apps may not be able to retrieve the cookie, resulting in an unexpected challenge for authentication.

Resolution

Only the IE browser has been certified for SharePoint Agent Office Client Integration.
