Functionality of UIM ci_defn_pack probe

Issue/Introduction

What is the functionality of the ci_defn_pack probe and where should it be deployed?

Environment

• Release: DX UIM, any release

Cause

• ci_defn_pack probe package being installed on a remote/secondary hub

Resolution

• The ci_defn_package is used to apply the latest UIM (CI) definitions without having to upgrade your DX UIM system to the latest version.
• Operator Console depends on CI definitions to display the metric values published by DX UIM probes.
• The ci_defn_pack is only deployed on the Primary hub.
• After the ci_defn_pack is deployed on the Primary hub, restart the nis_server probe on the Primary.

Additional Information

If the ci_defn_pack is deployed on any other hub and not the Primary where it has to be deployed, it will through a dependency error for the nis_server.

The nis_server only exists on the Primary hub.

The ci_defn_pack dependencies include:

• nis_server
• java_jre

Those package dependencies should be in place before the ci_defn_pack is deployed.
