SYSVIEW Performance Management WatchTower

Issue/Introduction

Is the collection of Time Series Data in SYSVIEW only for Mainframe Team Center Operational Intelligence (MTC-OI) or WatchTower? If so, should we disable the collection of Time Series Data to reduce SYSVIEW overhead and improve performance if we are not implementing MTC-OI?

Environment

SYSVIEW, all releases

WatchTower

Resolution

The Time Series Data parms specified in parmlib members SVWXTSD and SVWCTSD are only used for delivering data to a Mainframe Team Center Operational Intelligence (MTC-OI) data subscriber, and later to the WatchTower Machine Learning Insights.

Having the Time Series Data parms set to ENABLE (default value) in the parmlib members when there are no MTC-OI subscribers defined and connected does not incur any additional CPU usage in the region. This is because SYSVIEW recognizes the fact that there are no subscribers, and thus does not spend any additional CPU cycles for data collection. The Time Series Data parms can be set to DISABLE in the parmlib members or from the TSDSTATS display if desired, but this will not save any CPU by doing so.
