Issue/Introduction

In Identity Portal 14.x, the "Requested for" column in the Approval screen may display the literal value "New" instead of the expected user name. This behavior occurs based on the method used to initiate the user creation task.

Environment

Identity Portal 14.5

Cause

The "New" status appears when the approval task is generated for a user who has not yet been assigned a unique User ID. This occurs in the following scenario:

  • Bulk Task Creation: When a user is created via an Identity Manager Bulk Task, the user record is initialized without an immediate ID during the approval workflow.
  • Direct Portal Creation: In contrast, users created directly within the Identity Portal are assigned an ID immediately, allowing the "Requested for" field to populate correctly.

Resolution

To resolve or work around this display behavior, follow these steps:

  1. Verify Creation Source: Determine if the user was created via a Bulk Task in Identity Manager.
  2. Monitor Task Completion: Acknowledge that "New" is an expected placeholder for users awaiting ID assignment in specific approval workflows.
  3. Use Portal for Immediate IDs: If immediate name visibility is required in the approval screen, create and assign the user from within the Identity Portal interface instead of using Identity Manager bulk operations.
