Issue/Introduction

There are times when the demand amounts are not matching between the Capacity vs Demand by Role report and the Role Capacity portlet.

Resolution

The differences in demand between the report and the portlet can be due to:
  • The portlet taking into account unstaffed roles by default, whereas the report does not. In order for the report to take into account the demand of unstaffed roles, the Ínclude Unstaffed Roles parameter must be checked.
  • The portlet taking into account inactive resources by default, whereas the report does not. In order for the report to take into account the demand of inactive resources, the Include Inactive Resources parameter must be checked.
  • A mismatch between the Resource OBS Type (and OBS Unit) that is selected on the report parameters and the OBS that is selected on the Demand OBS filter on the portlet. This is an optional field on both the report and portlet, so it can be left blank. However, if it's populated in one, it should be populated in the other  to get consistent results.

The capacity amounts may also be different between the report and the portlet as the capacity of an inactive resources is not included in the portlet. However, the report does take this capacity into account. The best way to get the capacity to match is to enter a termination date on inactive resources to where their capacity will not be part of the capacity amounts in either the report or the portlet.
