Issue/Introduction

There are projects showing a different tab layout, although all projects have the same page layout (Project Default Layout). This may be noticed after an upgrade or after a change to the page layout on the administration side.

Example scenarios:

  • Several Tabs were inactivated in the "Project Default Layout" page layout, but they still show up for some projects.
  • Tab name changes don't show up for all projects with the same page layout (such as a rename of the Financial tab).
  • Financial Plans tab on the Project Properties page gets misplaced with respect to order of the tabs. The tab is placed in different orders in different projects.
  • The URL for the tab is different than the page name (e.g.: instead of seeing the page name, it shows SYSTEM5xxxxxx) - apparently the page URL may appear to be changing "randomly".

Note: In the database you may find a different id for these projects in the column CMN_INSTANCE_PAGES.PAGE_FRAME_ID.

Environment

Any Clarity supported release.

Cause

  • This can happen if a user customized the project using the Manage Project Tabs option in the project (note that accessing the Manage Project Tabs option already counts as customizing the project).
  • By design, if a user has customized the layout of a project, any changes made on the Administration side to the layout won't get pushed to the project automatically for any users.

Resolution

To make changes reflected for all projects:

  1. Go to Administration > Studio > Portlet Pages and search for "Project Default Layout".
  2. Open this and in the Properties tab, click Publish.
    • Note: Clicking publish here will reset the page layout for any project that has been customized by a user to the layout on the admin side.
    • This will not affect project list customizations, but only those configurations made to the tab layout / content.
      • Publishing from the Project Object view would impact project list customizations which is a separate location.

To update one project:

  1. Click on the project.
  2. Click on the Manage Project Tabs option in the right hand corner of the project (+/- or wrench icon next to open in scheduler).
  3. Click Restore Defaults.
