Issue/Introduction

Executing SMP/e Apply to apply maintenance and receiving link-edit processing errors.

GIM23911E LINK-EDIT PROCESSING FOR SYSMOD sysmod FAILED FOR MODULE modname IN LMOD loadmod IN THE library LIBRARY. THE RETURN CODE (rtncode) EXCEEDED THE ALLOWABLE VALUE. DATE yy.ddd - TIME hh:mm:ss - SEQUENCE NUMBER seqno - SYSPRINT FILE sysprint.
IEW2456E   SYMBOL symbol UNRESOLVED. MEMBER COULD NOT BE INCLUDED FROM THE DESIGNATED CALL LIBRARY. [NAME SPACE = name-space]

Reviewing the DDDEFs all libraries are correctly defined.

What could be causing the link-edit processing errors?

Environment

Release:
Component: INS

Cause

If all checks out correctly then review the job output for possible space errors; for example GIM26701S.

Resolution

An example of a space error causing link-edit processing errors is GIM26701S.

GIM26701S    DIRECTORY SPACE FOR THE library LIBRARY WAS EXCEEDED DURING AN ATTEMPT TO STORE enttype ENTRY entname.

In this particular case, increase the directory block allocations in the SMPWRKn DD file definitions in the JCL and run the Apply Check again.
