VARY a JOURNAL to ACTIVE failing with waiting for a previous VARY to complete

Issue/Introduction

Unable to VARY a JOURNAL file to ACTIVE because it is waiting for a previous VARY to complete.    

This document describes how to find and terminate the previous VARY command that it is waiting for to complete, so that the JOURNAL FILE can be VARYed ACTIVE.

 

 

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Resolution

To find and terminate the pending VARY command that it is waiting for to complete, follow these steps:

1. DCMT D ID
   Note the ID of the VARY command that is waiting to complete
2. DCMT VARY ID xxx TERMINATE
   To free the PENDING VARY command
3. DCMT VARY JOURNAL FILE jrnl1 ACTIVE
   To VARY the JOURNAL file ACTIVE
