Issue/Introduction

When applying a filter to an object list page, the following error is given in the UI:

System error. Contact System administrator.

The app logs show:
ERROR 2019-01-17 11:20:45,437 [http-nio-14001-exec-80] niku.xql2 (clarity:[email protected]:103283976__5C8540D2-C479-4395-9C39-14B48ECD0F83:projmgr.others) Internal Processing exception com.niku.odf.griphendor.GriphendorException: org.w3c.dom.DOMException: INVALID_CHARACTER_ERR: An invalid or illegal XML character is specified. at com.niku.odf.griphendor.grid.Transformer.transform(Transformer.java:279) at com.niku.odf.griphendor.grid.GridKernel.processRequest(GridKernel.java:444) at com.niku.odf.griphendor.GriphendorEngine.processGridRequest(GriphendorEngine.java:136) at com.niku.odf.griphendor.GriphendorEngine.processRequest(GriphendorEngine.java:85)

Resolution

Try clearing the web browser cache.  Then close all web browser windows and log into PPM again.

If that doesn't work, try the following:

  1. Click the Configure icon for the list.
  2. Hover over the Filter tab and choose Layout.
  3. Take a screenshot of that screen so that you can recreate it easily later.
  4. Click the General tab.
  5. Click the Restore Defaults button.
  6. Hover over the Filter tab and choose Layout
  7. Add the attributes back to match the screenshot.
  8. Click the Save and Return button.

The filtering should now work again.

NOTE:  The user may need to clear their cache again.
