What Happens in CA View when the SARSTC Started Task is Stopped During a View Backup?
If a CA View SARSTC task is attempted to be stopped with a STOP (P) operator command, with "/P sarstc", while a View backup is in progress, there will be the generation of message:
SARBKU07 Backup cycle is running - Reply W (wait) to wait for it to complete or T (terminate)
If you cancel the View task it will terminate the backup cycle if it's running.
The next time it's started it will continue from where it left off.
With SARINIT setting of STACKBU=NO (the default), a subsequent backup cycle will not run until the current backup cycle in question is addressed.
If there is no eventual response to either the "W" or the "T", then please follow process:
. Cancel the SARSTC task using "/C sarstc".
. Start the SARSTC task using "/S sarstc,OPT=STOPBU".
. Either wait for the next View backup to run, or a backup can be forced using "/F sarstc,NEW".
One important point to remember - if you do cancel the task and therefore the backup cycle and you are using a tape management system this could result in the tape being scratched - this needs to be catered for in the tape management system and we do document this in the Ca View documentation.
