Issue/Introduction

Can VM:Tape share a tape pool with z/TPF?

Environment

IBM z/TPF sharing peripherals with z/VM running VM:Tape.

Resolution

CA recommends that you have separate tape pools for z/TPF and VM:Tape.

Otherwise, you may encounter problems when tapes are “mounted and in use” for TPF but they are still marked as SCRATCH in the TMC because the TPF job has not completed and/or the TPF-TMC update job has not yet been submitted to z/OS to mark the tapes as SAVED in the TMC.
