Issue/Introduction

When allocating a new CA View database, what does receiving a SARDBI01 message with ERROR=970C indicate?

Environment

CA View - All releases

Resolution

When trying to allocate a new View database extent, and the message received is:

  SARDBI01  Index file allocation failed for view_hlq - ERROR=970C INFO=0000 DS=nnn

the ERROR=970C (indicating a dynamic allocation error) normally means:

. The limit of the number of cylinders that can be allocated has been exceeded.

The CA View limit is 4369, and the IBM limit is 4376.

Note: Starting with View 11.6, IBM's Large Dataset feature can be used.

. A severe Storage Management Subsystem (SMS) VTOC error occurred, and the storage volume is ineligible for the View dataset name.

. There is not enough contiguous space available on the storage volume.

Please determine which of the above pertains to the situation, correct what is necessary, and resubmit the allocation.
