Issue/Introduction

How does SAMPJCL member AGJ1HOLD differ from AGJ7RECH and when should each be used?

Environment

Release: All supported releases.

Resolution

AGJ1HOLD is used to download the HOLD DATA from the ftp server to the client's mainframe. Run AGJ1HOLD to download the HOLD DATA before applying any maintenance just in case the PTFs being applied have been marked in error or have some other condition.

AGJ7RECH is used to RECEIVE the HOLD DATA downloaded with AGJ1HOLD into the SMP/E environment. The HOLD DATA is not used until it is received. AGJ7RECH should always be run after AGJ1HOLD.

An alternative to running AGJ7RECH is to receive the HOLD DATA at the same time as receiving a PTF using SAMPJCL member AGJ7RECP. Modify the SMPHOLD DD statement to point to the dataset containing the HOLD DATA created in AGJ1HOLD. The receive statement should look like this:

RECEIVE SYSMODS HOLDDATA .
