Issue/Introduction

When running the addjbossDatasource script for the Identity Suite Virtual Appliance, the process may return a "Connection is not valid" warning and abort execution, even if the security domain and datasource appear to be created successfully.

Environment

Identity Suite 14.5

Cause

The addjbossDatasource utility may fail to correctly parse database passwords containing special characters. If these characters are not escaped, the script treats them as shell operators or invalid characters, resulting in a failed connection validation attempt.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must escape each special character in the password string within your configuration file:

  1. Identify the special characters in your database password (e.g., $, !, #).
  2. Open the datasource configuration file (e.g., /opt/CA/VirtualAppliance/custom/IdentityManager/dataSources/identity-portal).
  3. Locate the DB_PASSWORD entry.
  4. Prepend a backslash (\) to every special character.
    • Example: If the password is ExamplePassword$123, update the configuration to DB_PASSWORD=ExamplePassword\$123.
  5. Save the configuration file.
  6. Re-run the addjbossDatasource script to verify the connection is successfully validated.
