How to change Identity Suite Virtual Appliance config user master password

Issue/Introduction

This article provides instructions for updating the master password for the "config" user account on the Identity Suite Virtual Appliance (vApp). The "config" user is established during the initial deployment of the vApp for administrative and configuration tasks.

Environment

Virtual Appliance 14.5

Cause

Administrators may need to rotate or update the "config" user password to comply with security policies or following the initial deployment phase where default credentials might have been used.

Resolution

To change the password for the "config" user, perform the following steps:

1. Connect to the Identity Suite Virtual Appliance via SSH or the console.
2. Log in using the current config user credentials.
3. At the command prompt, execute the following command:

   passwd

4. Follow the system prompts to enter the current password and then provide and confirm the new master password.
