Issue/Introduction

How to split large HSM CDS's (MCDS/BCDS) during a DFSMShsm to Disk conversion ?

Environment

Release: Disk-Backup and Restore 12.5

Resolution

DFSMShsm provides an application, SPLITCDS, that analyzes the current CDS data in all clusters and produces a report that shows the split ranges for two, three, and four clusters.

You can analyze your existing control data sets using the SPLITCDS job in the DFHSM.SAMPLE.TOOL library.

Disk r12.5 APAR RO93161 adds the parameter KEY= to CREATEFD processing for DFSMShsm conversions.

KEY=

(Optional). When splitting the BCDS and/or MCDS, use this parameter to assign a different dummy Archvol keys for each split version.

The value defaults to 00001.  It must be specified as five numeric values.

With KEY=00001, ADSDC002 will assign the dummy Archvol key B00001 in CREATFD for the generated BACKUP-DSNINDEX and ARCHVOLS entries based on the BCDS, while ADSDC003 will assign the dummy Archvol key M00001 for the generated ARCHIVE-DSNINDEX and ARCHVOLS entries based on the MCDS.

The KEY= parameter provides the ability to use multiple HSM volsers in the HSM conversion utility if you needed to split the MCDS or BCDS because of their size. By using different dummy Archvol keys, the created FDS's can later be combined without errors into one CA Datacom Files Data Base.

You should run multiple DBCONVRT jobs to convert each FDS into the same FDB.

If you convert each FDS into a separate FDB, you may also run multiple DBCOMBIN’s to combine the FDB’s back into one single FDB.
