CA Performance Management Network Observability

Issue/Introduction

We have a device not collecting data.  The device is showing in the Inventory -> Devices list but not in the Data Aggregator -> Monitored Devices page on NetOps Portal.

Multiple Data Sources are in use, and no data is seen in Data Aggregator data source based reports but is for other data sources such as Network Flow Analysis (NFA) or Spectrum.

When placing the device in a Discover Profile by itself and rediscovering, an existing device is found. When clicking Unchanged, a different device than the one being discovered appears at a different IP address.

Environment

NetOps Performance Management: all releases

Cause

The device seen in NetOps Portal Inventory list is not provisioned by the Data Aggregator data source, but is supplied by another data source (e.g. Spectrum or NFA).

When looking at the device that is found during discovery as pre-existing in the Data Aggregator Monitored Devices page, it is seen as Management Lost, which means it cannot be contacted via SNMP.

If select IP / MAC Addresses on the same page, the IP of the device we are trying to discover appears in the list of IP addresses.

Resolution

If the existing device is no longer in use, delete the device and rediscover the new device.

Note that deleting the device removes all historical data for the device.
