Issue/Introduction

Daylight Savings time change requirements for CA IDMS when using SET TIMEZONE to change the time zone or changing the local time.

Do we still have to shut down for one hour each fall when switching back to Standard Time?

Any requirements when moving forward one hour to Daylight Savings Time?

Environment

CA IDMS all releases and operating systems.

Resolution

No. Starting with CA IDMS 18.5 there is nothing you need to do when your local time changes.

Journals have used UTC datetime stamps for many releases and Log records were changed to use UTC instead of local time as of 18.5. This feature is automatically enabled. No extra action is required to activate it.

With the use of UTC time internally,  IDMS processing is not affected by changing the operating system time zone or local time.

The CA IDMC CV, local batch jobs and CV batch jobs can remain active while the system time is advanced or set back one hour.

Important! Before starting an 18.5 CV for the first time, start with a fresh log file. Do not mix the log data from the previous release with the log data from the new release. Mixing data is problematic, as the timestamps in the old release are in local time, but the new data is stamped in UTC time.

You can decide to use the UTC keyword on Archive Log jobs so that printed log times do not change during time changes.
