Temporary password update behavior for Forgotten Password task - Identity Manager

Issue/Introduction

When a user completes a "Forgotten Password" Admin Task in Identity Manager, the system generates a temporary password.

This article clarifies which connected systems and directories are updated with this temporary credential during the task execution.

Environment

Identity Manager 14.x & 15

Cause

There is often technical ambiguity regarding whether temporary credentials propagate across the entire identity environment, including the Provisioning Directory and managed Endpoints, or remain localized to the primary user store.

Resolution

The update behavior for temporary passwords generated by the Forgotten Password task is as follows:

1. User Store: The temporary password is updated successfully in the primary Identity Manager User Store.
2. Provisioning Directory: The temporary password is not updated in the Provisioning Directory.
3. Managed Endpoints: The temporary password is not propagated to any connected Endpoints.
