Issue/Introduction

In environments utilizing multiple Identity Suite Virtual Appliance (vApp) images, administrators may encounter inconsistent SSH access using clients like PuTTY. While some images remain accessible, others may refuse connections, preventing remote command-line management.

Environment

Virtual Appliance 14.5

Cause

This issue is typically caused by the SSH daemon (sshd) not being initialized on the host, the SSH port (default 22) being blocked by network firewalls, or the host configuration not being set to accept remote logins.

Resolution

  1. Access the Virtual Appliance through the hypervisor console.
  2. Verify the status of the SSH service by running the following command:
    • statusService sshd
  3. If the service is stopped, start it using:
    • startService sshd
  4. Confirm that the SSH port is open and listening for connections.
  5. Review the SSH configuration to ensure it is set to accept logins from the intended administrative users.
