Issue/Introduction
Is Datacom data eligible to take advantage of z/EDC hardware compression?
Environment
z/OS
Resolution
z/EDC is a hardware compression and is not suitable for Datacom/DB file due to Data Dictionary Building Block (DBB) overhead paired for each block. Benefits are realized with large Block Sizes such as 4K.
Additional Information
If you are using the CA Datacom/DB Presspack component, you can generate your RDT with METHOD=ZL to exploit the Hardware Compression.
For more information on the Presspack component, refer to CA Datacom Core - 15.1 and search for ‘presspack’.
