Gateway opens new connection instead of using existing MQ connection

Issue/Introduction

When providing an incorrect Queue name in the MQ Native Queue properties screen the number of connections on the configured channel seems to increase until the MQ server is denying any new connections. The existing connections will never be released and the only option found is restarting the channel on the MQ server side.
