Issue/Introduction

Whenever DQ is running with external security, the DQA pg 231 states: "All passwords are one to nine characters in length.

The passwords are not displayed at any time. If a user forgets his individual password, assign a new password." Can we have a bit more clarity here as to whether the password can be comprised of upper and lowercase characters, numbers and what symbols? Does it have to start out with an alphabetic character?

Is there a minimum length?

Once this information is found for this ticket, can we also request that it be published in the next update to the DQ Admin manual?

Environment

z/OS, Datacom/DB 15.1 and above.

Resolution

Restrictions, on DQ individual passwords, have been updated in the documentation section Managing Passwords  with the following Notes:

Note:  DQ passwords are 9 bytes in length and consist of upper-case letters, numbers and most special characters.  The password cannot contain an embedded ‘ ‘ (space) or ‘/’ (slash).

and in section Adding a New User:

(Optional) Enter a 1- to 9-character alphanumeric password. This field is used to assign an individual user password.  It may consist of upper-case letters, numbers and most special characters.  The password cannot contain an embedded ‘ ‘ (space) or ‘/’ (slash).

and

Also for the batch utility DQUSERMT, section DQUSERMT (User Table) ADD and UPDATE Statements  under the PASSWORD= description add 2 lines:

Optional) Enter a 1- to 9-character alphanumeric password. This field is used to assign an individual user password. (No default).  It may consist of upper-case letters, numbers and most special characters.  The password cannot contain an embedded ‘ ‘ (space) or ‘/’ (slash).
