CA Workload Automation AE - Business Agents (AutoSys)CA Workload Automation AE - Scheduler (AutoSys)Workload Automation Agent
Issue/Introduction
Requesting CA's official position on direct DB access of the Workload Automation AE database. Clients are seeking access so they may perform tasks like gathering job run statistics, dependencies or job definitions, etc...
Environment
Release: Component: UWCC
Resolution
In general CA does not encourage clients to write their own custom queries against the AE database. The AE database schema is not publicly documented. It is intended to be used by the AE processes. The AE database schema can and will change from version to version.
Clients connecting to the database and exhausting connections, resources, and running queries can impact AE and database performance.
CA recommends clients look into the AE SDK or open enhancement requests if there is something needed that the product's commands currently do not provide.
If client's use the SDK they can embedded the AE API calls into their own custom programs. The API requests go to the application server and therefor adhere to security (EEM) and also allow the application server to query or update the db for the calling program. This helps with the number of direct db connections, need for dba to administer ids/password, etc...
CA's product management also is committed to supporting the API's compatibility from version to version.
